About
Lyme Disease is contracted through the bite of infected ticks carrying the bacteria borrelia burgdorferi. In its chronic form it is widely unrecognized in Canada. Most Canadians who contract Lyme are misdiagnosed due to misinformation and the lack of a reliable test for Lyme. If diagnosed with Lyme Disease Canadians are given treatment for a month only even though in cases of chronic Lyme disease the average treatment period is 2 years (in some cases much longer). Many Lyme patients are told that there is simply nothing wrong with them or are misdiagnosed with a range of other illnesses. Most people in BC and across Canada aren’t aware of the silent pandemic occurring here and doctors who do treat chronic Lyme Disease patients in Canada risk losing their medical licenses due to controversy surrounding treatment protocol.
The JL Lyme Support Society is a not-for-profit society founded by a group of friends committed to helping subsidize medical expenses associated with the treatment of Lyme Disease.
