On Saturday April 3 the JL Lyme Support Society will host LYME-AID 4 at the University of Victoria to spread awareness about Lyme disease and to raise funds to help pay for JL’s medical expenses.

1:30 pm UNDER OUR SKIN- An award winning documentary exposing the politics behind the silent Lyme disease pandemic that is sweeping the nation.

3:30pm PRESENTATION by DR. MURAKAMI- a now retired BC doctor who has successfully treated over one thousand Lyme sufferers offers insight into the Lyme situation in Canada and advice on what to do if you might have it.

Silent art auction- showcasing some awesome local artists’ pieces ranging in styles and mediums.

The event will be held at the University of Victoria, David Strong Building, Room C103

Entry is by donation.

Victoria, BC – In an effort to help Jean-Luc Giroux raise money for his medical treatment of Lyme Disease, the JL Lyme Support Society is hosting Lyme-Aid 3. Lyme-Aid 3 will be an evening event showcasing a range of local music from punk and metal to rock.

Headlining the event, Torque Records band Along Way Home will play bringing their pop/punk/hardcore sound and amazing live show. Also sharing the stage will be local Victoria rock band Theset and metal bands Reaver and Apparatus Theory.

The Lyme-Aid 3 fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at Lucky Bar (517 Yates Street). Doors are at 9pm.

Victoria, BC – July 1, 2009 – The JL Lyme Support Society will again be teaming up with local artists and musicians to raise funds for Victoria resident Jean-Luc Giroux in his struggle with Lyme Disease. A wide variety of art pieces will be auctioned off with entertainment provided by local musicians The Bronze Age, Christopher Arruda, Day 3, Lindsay Bryan + Kayla Weber, and Ellisa Hartman. The Lyme-Aid 2 Silent Art Auction and Acoustic Music fundraiser will be held on Friday July 17, 2009 at Cabin 12 (607 Pandora Avenue). The event will run from 7PM ‘til late.

“Our previous Lyme-Aid fundraiser at Lucky Bar was a huge success!” said event volunteer Trevor Day. “This time we wanted to invite members of the community to come out and enjoy the artwork and a different style of music than our last show!”

This is the second Lyme-Aid event hosted by the JL Lyme Support Society. With the first event funding a much needed specialist appointment in Seattle, the group is hoping to raise enough to pay for Jean-Luc’s next few months of medication.

“Jean-Luc’s situation is very serious,” said close friend Mike Leslie, “he needs several years of expensive antibiotic treatment to get the disease under control.”

Lyme Aid 2 is an all-ages event, entry by donation. Come show your support for JL in his struggle through Lyme Disease!

“JL (Jean-Luc) is very passionate about music, playing guitar is one of the things that is helping him cope in his battle with Lyme, so we decided it would be the perfect idea to throw him a benefit show.” said close friend and co-organizer Mike Deas.

Before getting sick, Jean-Luc was active in the community canvassing for charities such as Amnesty International, UNICEF, BC SPCA, Greenpeace, tutoring English at the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre, and volunteering for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“The expenses associated with the treatment for chronic Lyme Disease are extremely high because treatment is not available in Canada.” said close friend Keilih Gates. “We’re hoping that everyone will come out for a great night and be able to show JL that he has a lot of friends in Victoria who support him in his battle.”
