The JL Lyme Support Society will once again be teaming up with local musicians to host the 6th Lyme-Aid fundraiser on Monday May 9th, 2011 at the Victoria Event Centre. The purpose of the event is to spread awareness about Lyme disease and raise funds to cover Victoria resident Jean-Luc Giroux’s cost of treatment for chronic Lyme disease. The event will feature some of Vancouver Island’s top musical performers including Katie Schaan, Ellisa Hartman, Georgia Murray and Genevieve Rainey.
Recently a report was published in the current BC medical journal highlighting the inability of BC doctors to diagnose Lyme disease. This report sheds light on the situation that JL and many other BC residents have been faced with: a lack of adequate diagnosis and very few avenues in which to address their dire circumstances. Because of this JL and many other BC residents have had to seek expensive medical attention in the States.
May is Lyme disease awareness month. Come enjoy great music and show your support for a good cause! Help JL in his battle with Lyme disease.
Tickets are available in advance for $10 at Hollywood Tonight Video (860 Yates St.) or for $12 at the door.
This is a 19+ Event.
The JL Lyme Support Society, together with local artists, will be teaming up to host the fifth Lyme-Aid fundraiser. This event will be an acoustic music fundraiser featuring Lindsay Bryan, Steph Macpherson, Christopher Arruda and Ellisa Hartman. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to help pay for Victoria resident Jean-Luc Giroux’s treatment of Lyme disease. The Lyme-Aid 5 fundraiser will be held on Tuesday November 9 at The Victoria Event Centre (1415 Broad St) from 8PM-1AM.
JL has made huge progress on treatment. Last summer he was bedridden and unable to even reach over and take his pills by himself. Today he can occasionally make himself food and get out of the house on his good days. Despite the fact that treatment is working, JL is still being denied by the Canadian medical system and has to pay out of pocket to get treatment in the States.
The Lyme-Aid 5 fundraiser will be an event to help JL on the road to recovery and to raise awareness in the community about Lyme disease.
“JL has made so much progress thanks to the help of people in the community.” said event coordinator Keilih Gates. “We’re hoping everyone will come out, hear some great music, and show their support for JL!”
Lyme Aid 5 is a 19+ event. Entry is by donation (suggested donation $8).

Victoria, BC –March 17, 2009 – The JL Lyme Support Society will be hosting an event called Lyme-Aid at Lucky Bar (517 Yates St) on April 21st, 2009 from 9pm until 2am. The event is aimed solely at raising money to support Victoria resident Jean-Luc Giroux with his expensive treatment of Lyme Disease in the United States. Local Bands Unleash The Archers, Everyone Everywhere, Skies Kill, and Reaver will be featured at the event.
“JL (Jean-Luc) is very passionate about music, playing guitar is one of the things that is helping him cope in his battle with Lyme, so we decided it would be the perfect idea to throw him a benefit show.” said close friend and co-organizer Mike Deas.
Before getting sick, Jean-Luc was active in the community canvassing for charities such as Amnesty International, UNICEF, BC SPCA, Greenpeace, tutoring English at the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre, and volunteering for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“The expenses associated with the treatment for chronic Lyme Disease are extremely high because treatment is not available in Canada.” said close friend Keilih Gates. “We’re hoping that everyone will come out for a great night and be able to show JL that he has a lot of friends in Victoria who support him in his battle.”
Tickets for Lyme-Aid are available at Aces’n’Spades (1314 Douglas St) and Larsen’s Music (1833 Cook St) for $8 advance, and $10 at the door.
